Currently, two Lincoln portraits and a portrait of historic Lincoln painter Francis B. Carpenter are available in first edition print runs with portraits of Mary Todd Lincoln and Harriet Tubman under way.

This was my first portrait of Lincoln. I painted this during the Summer of 2005 shortly after landing my roles at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

It was finished on the same day that Lincoln read the Emancipation proclamation to the Cabinet, July 22nd. This was the scene that painter Francis B. Carpenter memorialized in his painting, "The First Reading of the Emanicipation Procalamation to the Cabinet," and one of the roles that I play at the museum is Francis B. Carpenter standing before the Cabinet on that day in the Cabinet Room exhibit of Journey 2.

Local artist Michael Manning inspired me to paint this portrait after many years of coaxing as I cut my teeth as a local artist myself, having been influenced by Mike's success in the local market. Getting the job at the museum finally convinced me that I ought to paint the eloquent president.

This was my second portrait of Lincoln. I had the distinction of being selected as the last in a series of local artists to be shown at RMD Gallery in the Summer of 2006, and I needed another Lincoln for the theme of the show so I chose another famous photo of the President, one that was a favorite of painter Francis B. Carpenter, wherein the President was reading to his son, Tadd.

Like the first one, "Magnum Opus," I chose to do an extreme close-up. I also chose a more colorful palette and stylized rendering to compliment the more traditional approach used in "Magnum Opus."

I decided that I ought to paint a portrait of the historical artist that I portray at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

Francis B. Carpenter stayed at the White House in the Summer of 1864 to paint a commemorative artist's rendering of the President's first reading of the Emancipation Proclamation to the Cabinet on July 22nd, 1862. He took over the dining room for six months and wrote a book about his time there after Lincoln was assassinated entitled, "The Inner Life: Six Months at the White House."
