Changes are happening and I have made some personal decisions regarding which direction to follow in my life and work.

First of all I wanted to deal with the problem I have been having with getting updates made to my various blogs. The one I called an ‘e-zine’ I have decided to put on the shelf for the moment so that I could focus more on this one. Numerous problems relating to how the theme renders on smart phones and the time it takes to publish articles on it have helped me decide to shelve it for now. It is still available at http://www.thespectra.net

I also have never gotten around to setting up my e-commerce site so I decided to shelve that as well for now (even though I spent $50 to buy a manual for it). There simply aren’t enough hours in the day to take care of all those things and I really hate to say it, but FaceBook is not only faster, but everyone is there. Why spend a lot of time building things that no one will visit?

In other news, I was elected President of the Access 4 Producers Group at our annual elections in May. I suppose this could be considered a milestone in my life that I have now been elected president of a 501 c3. I expect great things from the organization this year!

Our band, Hot Bag O’ Donuts, recently played a gig at the Crack Fox bar in St. louis with The Legendary Clampetts last Saturday May 14th. I posted a video from the performance on our website that was posted to our FaceBook Fan Page by Mark Stephan of The Legendary Clampetts. The gig was a blast and we plan to return there very soon.

There was art on their walls but much room was there for more art. The owner, Carrie, said she would be interested in more stuff and so gave me her business cards to pass out to artists that I know who would fit the style she likes. I gave one to several Third Thursday artists such as Mary Tumulty, Ryan Sponsler, Felicia Olin, and Melanie Edmonson.

Speaking of Third Thursday, The shows have started to branch out to other locations and dates starting with the Moonpanda Creative Studios space they we rented for a few select 3T artists to show work during the Old State Capitol Art Fair. There is another ‘satellite’ show planned for the Springfield Art Association Gallery coming soon as well (watch the website for more information). Also I should mention that select 3T artists have  been chosen for the last three months to stay on the walls of Cafe Andiamo! after each show.

I recently had an exhibition of paintings and prints at the Vachel Lindsay State Historic Site which included a new painting of Lindsay entitled, “Soul of a Butterfly, Death of the Hunter,” and Tamara Browning of the State Journal-Register wrote a nice article about it which you can read here.

I also was honored to be invited to share the stage with Joe Frew, The Greenview, and Pete Sander in the monthly Homegrown Folk Show at Bar None this last Friday, May 27th.  More on that later.

So that’s a round-up of what I have been up to. Expect more frequent posts here as developments continue.

Round Up 4/7/11

It’s been almost a year since I last posted an entry here. Most of the time I can barely keep up with posting things on my personal site, http://www.tedkeylon.com

I need to be more vigilant about posting though. let’s see what all I can add since last May’s post.

Well, Wait Until Dark went well and was a lot of fun to be involved with. The Soybean Lincoln turned out great and I understand it is in the Macon County Museum now! (I guess I have left my mark.) The pictures from that are still not posted, but when they are it will go along with updates to my site http://www.lincolnpaintings.com and more than likely there will be a special section in the Image Gallery: http://www.thespectra.net/coppermine/  for it.

Hot Bag O’ Donuts: http://www.hotnagodonuts.com has been playing around some more. We did our first gig at Bar None and played the Access 4 Producers group FUNraiser 5 at maldaner’s Upstairs which was awesome. In the last post here I mentioned we were going to play at the Caitie Girl’s Access 4 Producers Group Fundraiser 3 so that means there was another one in there which we did in July at Broadway Nites (formerly On Broadway) which I am sad to say, went out of business. When that happened I also lost my open mic there but I have become involved more with the Third Thursday Art Shows: http://www.thirdthursdayartshow.com now on Thursdays which started about the same time as my open mic. I knew I belonged at 3T instead all along. I help out organizing the shows and booking the music.

I am still a member of the Prairie Art Alliance: http://www.prairieart.org and I was elected treasurer of the Access 4 Producers Group: http://www.a4pg.org

Round Up 5/3/10

“Wait Until Dark,” is now behind me. The production went well and I truly enjoyed working with the Jacksonville Theatre Guild and all the actors who participated. I accidentally left my rug there which was used as a prop and I still need to venture back to Jacksonville to get it.

I am now beginning work in earnest on the Soybean Lincoln.  Ayn Owens of Ayn Productions wanted me to document the progress so I am taking a bunch of pictures and am doing FaceMic updates to my FaceBook profile which consist of a short audio clip and a single picture each plus I am taking extra pictures with my phone and posting them on FaceBook as well. I am also taking pictures with my regular camera and will end up posting them in my Coppermine image gallery on The Spectra, which will be available at http://www.LincolnPaintings.com

Here is the article in Decatur’s Herald and Review that relates the story of the Soybean Lincoln: http://www.herald-review.com/news/local/article_57e03e76-e614-5ae4-9ba7-ebe7dc902f11.html

The gigs for Hot Bag O’ Donuts all went well. We made more money in three gigs than Black Ops made in eight years. I never made as much since I was playing with elevator_shoe at Second Street Pub back in 2000. We have another gig coming up which is a freebie as they say, helping to add to the entertainment at Caitie Girl’s restaurant for the next Access 4 Producers group fundraiser on Monday, May 17th, you can view the details on the Press release included with the article on the Producers group website here:

Main website: http://www.access4.tv

Artice and press release for the event: http://www.thespectra.net/a4pg/a4pg.html

The Producers Group is also holding an election for its Board of Directors as part of the process for becoming a 501 c3. The election is being held on Saturday, May 8th at Lincoln Public Library Bicentennial Room on the third floor at 2:00 P.M.

Activities Galore!

Activities are mounting even more!

Since I wrote my last quick update here I have been asked to join the cast in Jacksonville of the thriller, “Wait Until Dark;”  I was also asked to perform in “New Salem Harmony,” at New Salem by the man who wrote it, Mark Mathewson;  I was invited to speak before “The People Speak,” at the Liberty Brew and View showing of that documentary at Capitol City Bar & Grill;  our electro-acoustic combo, “Hot Bag O’ Donuts,” was asked to perform at “A Rally for Nonintervention,” on the Capitol steps in Springfield;  I was asked to host an open mic at Broadway Nites;  and I was asked to create a portrait of Lincoln using soybeans which will be auctioned off at the Macon County Fair to rival the Butter Cow at the Illinois State Fair.

Add to this the previous work of Access 4 Producers Group organizing and website maintenance;  my other music project I am working on, Rebel Bass, is working to release the recording we made last Fall and preparing for a mini tour this Summer;  the radio shows;  and trying to finish up my portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln.

See my website at http://www.TedKeylon.com for dates and times of these events if you are interested.

Access 4, Ghost Light, and Hot Bag O’ Donuts

There seems to be a situation that recurs now and again where when events amp up, my time is taken by them so as to leave little for blogging about those events. Since I last blogged, Access 4 has shut down, Hot Bag O’ Donuts has come up, and I have started hosting an open mic at Broadway Nites (formerly On Broadway).

Here are some websites relating to these events:
